When people choose a shampoo, they often focus on how their hair feels afterwards.
Soft. Clean. Manageable.
But I think about something else first.
The scalp.
Because your scalp is skin. And like the skin on your face, it can become unbalanced. Too dry. Too oily. Reactive. Tight. Or simply overwhelmed by over-cleansing and product build-up.
That is why geranium oil is part of my Sandalwood Shampoo and Conditioner.
Not as decoration.
Not because it is trending.
But because it serves a purpose.
The Role of Balance
Geranium oil has long been valued in traditional botanical care for its balancing properties. It is often associated with helping to regulate the appearance of excess oil while also supporting comfort in areas that feel unsettled.
In simple terms, it encourages balance.
And balance is exactly what the scalp needs.
An unbalanced scalp can influence how hair behaves. When the scalp feels tight, irritated or overly oily, hair can appear flat, inconsistent or difficult to manage. Many people focus on treating the lengths, without realising that the environment at the root plays a significant role.
Supporting the scalp environment is often the missing step.
Why It Matters in Both Shampoo and Conditioner
Some assume that because shampoo is rinsed away, the ingredients matter less.
I disagree.
The cleansing stage is one of the most important moments for the scalp. It is when we remove build-up, excess oil and residue. If cleansing is too harsh, the scalp barrier can feel disrupted. If it is too weak, imbalance can remain.
Geranium oil helps soften that process by supporting a comfortable, balanced scalp environment during cleansing.
But it does not stop there.
Conditioner is often thought of as something only for the lengths. Yet the scalp is still skin. It can benefit from gentle conditioning and support, particularly if it feels dry, reactive or unsettled.
Including geranium oil in both formulations allows that balancing element to continue beyond the wash stage. It supports a consistent, comfortable scalp environment from cleanse to condition.
Its role is subtle. Supportive. Not overpowering.
Thoughtful Formulation, Always
I do not add ingredients for marketing value.
Every botanical in my formulations is chosen because it supports the overall goal: helping the scalp feel balanced so the hair above it can behave more consistently.
Geranium oil will not transform your hair overnight.
But consistency in how your scalp feels — comfortable, settled, supported — is often where real, lasting improvement begins.
And that is always where I start.
